A new opening day record for Bollywood was achieved by Shah Rukh Khan's much anticipated action film Jawan, which debuted to a robust 800k+ ticket sales on its first day. The movie, which was helmed by Atlee, had a tremendous opening across all markets, with the Hindi version alone earning over 65 crore net (estimated). With box office receipts of over 5 crore net (estimated), and 5 crore net (estimated), respectively, the movie also did well in Tamil and Telugu.
Shah Rukh Khan's star power is evident from Jawan's impressive opening. Fans were excited to see the actor again after more than four years away from the big screen. Both critics and viewers have applauded the movie's action scenes and stunning aesthetics.
Thursday had a 58.67% occupancy rate for the Hindi version of the movie. At 69.34 percent, the night shows had the greatest occupancy rate. Notably, Surat had the lowest occupancy, at 44.50 percent, while Chennai had the most, at 81 percent in the Hindi edition.
The Telugu version of Jawan had a 76.06 percent audience, compared to a 55.80 percent overall occupancy in the Tamil version.
Shah Rukh Khan, Atlee, Nayanthara, and Vijay Sethupathi work together for the first time on the film Jawan. Nayanthara and Sethupathi have, however, collaborated on a number of films before Jawan. The action drama is unique because it marks Atlee's debut as a Hindi filmmaker.
On Thursday, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared on Twitter his thoughts on Jawan and dubbed it a major hit. He gave the movie 4.5 stars and stated, "SRK is entitled to #Jawan. It doesn't take a crystal ball to see that #SRK will rule in 2023... Now let's hear the #BO's ROAR.
With such a fantastic start, Jawan is predicted to keep doing well at the box office and develop into a massive hit. The movie has a chance to be one of the biggest hits of the year, so it will be interesting to see how it does over the next several weeks.
